View of the Week: StoryCorp

For the final "View of the Week" for the quarter, we wanted to share this courtesy of +TED .  It is an exciting project which we look forward to contributing to as well as #Outsiders continues to develop:

Dave Isay: Everyone around you has a story the world needs to hear

21:38 minutes · Filmed Mar 2015 · Posted Mar 2015 · TED2015
Dave Isay opened the first StoryCorps booth in New York in 2003, to create a quiet place where a person could honor someone who mattered to them by listening to their story. Since then, StoryCorps has evolved into the single largest collection of human voices ever recorded. His TED Prize wish: to expand this archive of the collective wisdom of humanity. Hear his vision to take StoryCorps global — and learn how you can be a part of it by interviewing someone with the free StoryCorps app.

Thought 4 the Week: On Growing Old

We have been reflecting the week and the dreams ahead.    Education is about dreams and aspirations and this simple thought which  underscores what we have to continue to aspire to which we are pleased to share for this edition of "Thought 4 the Week" here in #Outsiders:

When our memories outweigh our dreams, we have grown old.

Notations From the Grid: On A Cultural Legacy & Freedom

A new week is before us in #Outsiders as spring has also dawned.   For this edition of "Notations from the Grid" we first decided to feature an old prayer from Dariush The Great, King of the Persians on the advent of the New year:

It asks that the Almighty save Iran from The Enemy, From Drought and from Lies.   It is at Persepolis and is about 2500 years old.   It is part and parcel of the cultural legacy that is at the heart of our World which is under attack by the merchants of death of the Islamic State.

The Education Journey that continues today is ever so important to preserve the freedom that it requires to be preserved.    It is ever so critical especially as one has to embrace this admonition from Daniel Ellsberg who had the courage to expose the profound shortcomings that underpinned the Vietnam War:

We here @ #Outsiders have been testing out and checking +Kifi ever since we saw a very insightful review of it by +Dylan Tweney on +VentureBeat earlier this week.    We just received this "weekly" snapshot which underscores a sense of how +Kifi seems to want to truly be different--even though it will be intergrated with Facebook.  As we hope all enjoy this snapshot, we hope to have further insights on it soon:

Dear Lifehacker, I have to fly with my two kids, a toddler and an infant, for the first time. I am absolutely dreading it. Besides dealing with the car seats, stroller, diaper bags, and other child contraptions I have to drag along, I'm afraid of being that parent whose children are a terror to the rest of the plane.

Notations From the Grid: On Nowrouz Celebration at the White House

The First Lady, Michelle Obama, hosted a Nowroz Celebration at the White House.  It was quite a wonderful scene to see as one of the most ancient of traditions celebrated in Iran and Afghanistan is celebarted as Spring is truly in the air.    This commentary is courtesy of the State Department's Farsi Facebook Page that reflects upon the day:

Thought 4 the Week: Thinking Differently (#Apple reminds us) :-)

Apple had a big day today...and it did not disappoint.     With the new Macs, updates on iphone and of course the Apple Watch (featuring the always elegant Christy Turlington), it was quite an event.   It was amazing to see that it will start @ $ 345 and goes all the way up to $ 10,000.    It lived up to this admonition to think different--what all of us must do and embrace:

View of the Week: On the US Federal Budget (A Retrospective Courtesy of the National Priorities Project)

We received this from the National Priorities Project that serves as an educational venue to provide views on the US Federal Budget.   For this edition of "View of the Week" we want to feature this here for reference:

Homeland Security Shutdown Averted
After a last-minute extension to the Department of Homeland Security budget gave Congressone additional week to resolve their differences, a bill to fund DHS through the end of this fiscal year was passed. Although the immediate shutdown threat was averted, the down-to-the-wire nature of this debate bodes ominously for coming budget deadlines.

If you missed our webinar explaining the president's budget proposal, it's not too late! You can still listen to the webinar and download the slides at your convenience. We'll be offering more webinars this spring, so stay tuned.
