Under the orders of Major General Edward P. King Jr., 78,000 troops (66,000 Filipinos and 12,000 American Soldiers) surrender to the Japanese at Bataan in the Philippines.  The 55-mile March of the prisoners to the POW camps in San Fernando became known as the “Bataan Death March. Read more.
