We’d like to take this opportunity to raise awareness and encourage men to get their cancer screenings, including other recommended health screenings:
- Prostate cancer screening: If you are ages 55-69, consider getting a prostate cancer screening. Before making a decision, consult with your doctor about the benefits and drawbacks of being screened. African American men and those with a family history of the disease should have this talk at age 50 or younger.
- Colorectal cancer screening: If you are between the ages of 50 and 75, discuss screening options with your doctor to determine which one is right for you. If you have a family or personal history of colorectal problems, speak to your doctor about a colorectal cancer screening earlier.
- Blood pressure screening: The American Heart Association recommends that everyone start getting their blood pressure checked at least every two years, more frequently if it is 120/80 or higher.
- Diabetes screening: If you are ages 40-70 and are overweight or obese, you should have your blood glucose checked to screen for diabetes.
