Morocco is set to compete in the Women's World Cup this week for the first time ever. Not only are players smashing barriers with their appearances on the pitch, but three Moroccan referees will also be making their mark.
Their presence at the biggest competition in the sport is no accident.
Bouchra Karboubi, Fatiha Jermoumi and Soukaina Hamdi are at the forefront of a push to improve women's participation, which has seen the country go from fewer than 15 locally accredited Moroccan female football referees 20 years ago to eight internationally accredited female referees and more than 120 locally licensed ones today.
