View of the Week: On Choices

Fo this editon of "View of the Week" we wanted to feature a talk from +TED that we view as a critical challenge especially as the United States was witness to the riots in Baltimore which we commented on here in #Outsiders.

The challenge she lays out is daunting especially as the debate has begun throughout the United States on changes in the Criminal Justice System:

In the United States, two institutions guide teenagers on the journey to adulthood: college and prison. Sociologist Alice Goffman spent six years in a troubled Philadelphia neighborhood and saw first-hand how teenagers of African-American and Latino backgrounds are funneled down the path to prison — sometimes starting with relatively minor infractions.
